First renewal, exemptions & reporting
First renewal
First-renewal requirements depend on how and when your initial license was issued. Some newly licensed nurses are exempt from general hours, but required topics still apply. Review the board's first-renewal rules before selecting courses.
Specialty certification exemption
A qualifying specialty certification accredited by NCCA or ABSNC provides a CE exemption. The 2-hour human trafficking requirement still applies.
Reporting and accepted courses
Report completed CE to CE Broker before renewing. Mandatory courses must be offered by a Florida Board of Nursing approved provider, except the human trafficking course, which must meet the statutory content requirements. General nursing CE must meet the board's accepted accreditation criteria.
Renewal dates
RN Group 1: April 30, 2028. RN Group 2: July 31, 2028. RN Group 3: April 30, 2027. Use the expiration date on your RN or LPN license to confirm your deadline.
